Before the cold sets in

Gas fireplace tune-up in Orem and Utah County

I'll clean, inspect, and test your fireplace so it lights reliably and runs safely all season.

A stone fireplace with a steady fire in a living room

I'll clean, inspect, and test your fireplace so you can use it this winter with peace of mind. A tune-up is the visit you want before the first cold week, not after the fireplace has already failed on a Friday night. Fireplace season is here in Utah County, and a lot of the "it won't light" calls in October are fireplaces that just needed a cleaning and a real test.

Here's what every tune-up includes:

  • Remove and clean the glass
  • Clean the logs
  • Clean the main burner
  • Clean the pilot assembly
  • Clean under and above the firebox
  • Check for gas leaks, loose wires, and other safety concerns
  • Test the thermopile
  • Add embers
  • Make sure the logs are installed according to the manufacturer

Soot on the glass isn't only cosmetic. It usually means the flame or the logs have been off enough that combustion isn't as clean as it should be. I clean the glass with what that glass needs, not a kitchen spray, and I look at why it sooted.

Once a year, before the heating season, is a good rule. If the fireplace sat all summer, that annual visit is also when I catch the spider webs in the pilot tube and the batteries that died in June.

A tune-up is not a repair in disguise. If I find a bad valve or a thermocouple that won't hold, I'll stop and tell you before it turns into a parts job. You get a straight quote either way. I don't publish a price because a simple glass-and-test visit and a fireplace that needs parts are not the same thing. We price match written local quotes.

You don't have to take the glass off yourself before I arrive. In fact, leave it. Some glass frames are easy to crack if the clips are forced. I'll handle it.

Signs you need this

  • It's been a year, or you can't remember the last service
  • The glass is hazed or sooted
  • The flame looks lazier than it used to
  • You want it checked before guests or the first storm
  • It sat unused all summer

What I do

Every tune-up includes:

  • Remove and clean the glass
  • Clean the logs
  • Clean the main burner
  • Clean the pilot assembly
  • Clean under and above the firebox
  • Check for gas leaks, loose wires, and other safety concerns
  • Test the thermopile
  • Add embers
  • Make sure the logs are installed according to the manufacturer

If I find a failed part, I stop and quote the repair instead of quietly turning a tune-up into something else.
