Problems I fix all season
Gas fireplace won't light, or the pilot won't stay lit? This is one of the most common calls I get at the start of the season. Clicking with no flame, a pilot that dies when you let go of the button, a fireplace that shuts off by itself, a remote that does nothing, soot on the glass, a blower that's loud or dead.
Check that the gas valve is on and that the remote and switch have batteries. Then call. Don't take the fireplace apart.
I also tune fireplaces up before winter and add a blower when the fireplace can take one. Haven't used it in years? Start with a safety check.

Check that the gas valve is on, and check the wall switch or remote batteries, then call. Don't take things apart.
I haven't used my fireplace in years. Is it safe?
Don't assume it is. Dust, insects in the pilot, dead batteries, and parts that haven't moved in a long time are common on a fireplace that sat. A safety check is how I make sure it's ready before the first fire of the season, including in a home you just moved into.
